They already compensated us for those previous incidents (January-February this year), but a net total of at least 6 hours was spent today trying to restore the state/health of our LAN. Instead, we found some workarounds. while im sceptical that the hub described there actually updates its firmware on every boot (thats what it seems to imply at least-- perhaps he is referring to provisioning?) i dont doubt that the bt service is awful, and as noted this isnt the first time this year the muckrights owner has complained about them. in many places in the united states, customers are limited to one service based on dsl or fibre, vs one service based on cable. those are at least the practical options many customers are limited to (in rural areas, satellite is an option). since we are talking about manchester though, several options exist: => https://fairinternetreport.com/United-Kingdom/Manchester perhaps these will be explored eventually. however, muckrights has long existed to complain primarily without trying to fix things. where only so much can be done, i think thats reasonable. if for some reason its really impossible to switch to another service, so be it. most people do not have the power to change every little thing for the better. i certainly cant. setbacks are a real thing, and there are many loaded into our software and development processes that we should be trying to get away from. its just that this is a pattern that stretches to so many things that muckrights talks about, it becomes clear that muckrights prefers to stay mired for more than a decade in something that can be blogged about, rather than try to do anything (make a simple but meaningful change) about it. when it comes to bt, it almost gives people the impression that no other "real" options than bt exist. its a shame that theyve been rewarded for such terrible service with all these years of repeat custom. the same goes for debian, which muckrights has complained about year after year, but it begins to ring hollow when even the site owner discourages people from finding alternatives. real progress matters more than just image, of course. thats only fair. so where is the "real" progress that muckrights represents, then? is it really only hype? muckrights: standing for progress. fighting for change. but typically staying the same. => https://muckrights-sans-merde.neocities.org
