a monopoly exists where only the owner of the monopoly (or the monopoly itself) is allowed to do something.
some examples:
1. lets start with the weakest one: dfc starts blogging, roy gives him more shit than ever before
not a great example because there are other very plausible reasons he could be giving dfc shit. but since dfc is the only regular who has taken up blogging since i left, its worth mentioning. maybe other people can blog without being punished, but that has not happened yet.
note that muckrights didnt even start out as roys blog. it was simply abandoned by most other contributors (not all).
2. i covered the gnu.fools coup on the same day it happened, roy ignored it for 3 days, then when he mentioned it talked about why it should be ignored
then in irc claimed it had failed, then he talked about it for a while, then he shifted the narrative towards being all about ibm (its just as much to do with debian, buy roy wont admit that). if you want roy to cover something, youre either going to have to write it for his blog, or let him cover it first.
3. he has dismissed things people wrote after leaving, even when they were based directly on things he said himself
roy just wants readers. he will cover both sides of a story, not as possibilities but as editorials as if both sides are his personal stance. unless of course, you fall out of favour with him. then he will simply say your stance is bunk-- even if you got it from him.
4. roy doesnt collaborate, he appropriates
i dont think roy started #deletegithub-- though either way, he was doing it well before i was. roy was extremely active in social media (he doesnt consider posting there to be active, but im not sure where the line is because he posts there and he mirrors posts from there. maybe he considered not being there if he doesnt reply to the replies?) posting with the #deletegithub tag and i thought it was important, so i started doing a lot of research along those lines. in fact its become as important to me as systemd. but roy has downplayed my findings, stating that the number of gnu projects on github is smaller than what i said or what it is-- and hes recently taken to this sort of nonsense:
```
Thu 04:23:10 │ schestowitz-TR │ fixosdev was pulling his hair out (metaphorically) over anything with github DEPENDENCIES
Thu 04:23:18 │ schestowitz-TR │ which means almost everything
```
this is an interesting way of turning research on its head-- the entire point of finding github dependencies is that IT IS almost everything.
the sheer scale of what microsoft controls now is beyond absurdity. they purchased more than half the free software movement. even gnu uses github-- MORE than a dozen projects have moved there, and more than 41% of the gnu project requires github dependencies. libre.js is based on jasmine, a javascript library on github. and it may (from the code i saw, but may have misunderstood) wget jasmine directly from github into the gnu icecat package. i think thats dangerous, but it would take a researcher with more experience to weigh the level of stupidity that goes into that (if indeed it does that).
gnu, of all things, should be self-hosted-- like muckrights pretends to be.
but if your research is for roy, he will twist it any way he likes. if you stop writing for him, he twists it even more.
5. he dismisses tips, too
ive seen roy dismiss tips other people brought to him, saying they were either unimportant or that its better to leave that story alone to move on to other things, then later he would cover such things himself, even for days. i think this is a problem that goes beyond simple dishonesty and is more like abusing people (lying to them) for trying to collaborate with him after he invites people to do so.
6. he puts words in peoples mouths, then tells other people what they "said"
not just anyones mouth-- stallmans. he has simply made up things that stallman allegedly told him, which stallman did not say.
7. he wont even let you agree with him
i got shit for MONTHS for saying i was done watching derek taylor. but thats literally all i said about it (in email no less). he asked me to explain why, so i did. then he told people i flew into a rage about it. this never happened, in fact the text of what i explained is available on both this website and his. whether roys own logs say differently does not matter, he simply misrepresents the story over and over, for months.
but hilariously, in another channel he controlled, he had gone to one of his associates and talked about EXACTLY THE SAME CONCERNS I HAD, which i presented only because he asked in the first place.
again, this goes beyond simple dishonesty. its much closer to exploitation.
i have covered examples of all of these things, with citations and urls, on this website.
note that giafam also do things like this-- on a completely different scale, of course.
naturally, he will deny these things, even if you quote him (in context, of course). he <3 contributors, and saying so makes it true.
