### list-of-anti-freetures other pages: => why-msm.html why-msm *originally posted:* may 2021 one way to talk about freedom is in terms of whats possible, and what to do. but we can do the opposite, too-- we can talk about how to reduce user freedom. here are some great ways to make yourself (or other users) less free: ### the init system / operating system that everybody but this one guy BANG!!! that everybody loves * who doesnt love ibm taking over their os feature-by-feature, not unlike how gnu took over unix (hmm) and then getting everybody to use the crappy ibm version instead? oh, and its completely unmaintainable, and if you dont like it, you can go fuck yourself. its free software, so so you can always fork it. go ahead and try! mitigations: devu-- bsd, mostly. thats a start. ### infinite scrolling * no, not like the long-winded articles youll find here. those may take a while, but they eventually get to the bottom. infinite scrolling goes on, and on, and on, and on... its made to make it so even if you try to get to the bottom, you get teased with just a little more content-- oh, hopefully you installed enough ram for this. mitigations: gemini ### gnome * gnome hates your freedom. gnome hates my freedom. gnome hates richard stallmans freedom. gnome hates everybodys freedom. gnome is barely fucking free. stop letting these trolls bait you with "software". theyre dicks. its as simple as that. sure, there are more eloquent ways of talking about how fuck-awful gnome is. but really, stop making it worse. mitigations: dont use a gui at all. or use tk. if you want to be happy and avoid lots of strife, uninstall gnome bullshit from your life-- so from my personal point of view, find an uglier toolkit to use! ### kde trail mix * kde used to be pretty good software. who knows if trinity will manage to keep it that way. when kde 4 came out, two things went terribly wrong. one is that fucking cashew thing that kde just decided "youll like it, fuck you." how about no? kde 4 brought nothing to the table that made me want to use it. it looked good, sometimes, but it was far less reliable-- plasma often didnt load at all. who needs that? ive been unimpressed with kde ever since. its not just that they changed-- they stopped giving a fuck. and after that, so did i. mitigations: trinity, maybe? or better yet just use tk. ### telemetry and automatic updates * applications phoning home isnt something i want to happen without my permission. when developers decide to make these things opt-out instead of opt-in, how do you ever really know if its turned off or not? if it was easier to change and recompile the software, people would do it in protest. they dont make it easy-- they do the opposite. this goes against the spirit of free software, and it goes against the freedom of the user. and they know that-- they just dont fucking care. GIVE US YOUR DATA, PEONS! mitigations: fuck this crapware. => https://muckrights-sans-merde.neocities.org
