roy bullshits about me. he bullshits about stallman. he really bullshits about systemd (and FOR debian) more than anything else i can think of. but his bullshit about bsd (especially openbsd) is coming up in the ranks.
i think roy feels threatened by openbsd. unlike his own trolling and if-by-whiskey lies hes told people over the past few years, bsd is a real solution to gnu/linux problems and a real solution to systemd.
years ago, when roy was saying he was "neutral or apathetic" about systemd, a lot of said that ultimately the problems that caused systemd would take over the kernel as well.
roy (perhaps deliberately) misses the point that its the forkability of the kernel, not the organisations that make it attractive. openbsd is the most forkable kernel in anything close to mainstream use, UNLESS you count minix (and i think you probably shouldnt, but i have no problem with it if you do. i dont particularly like minix, i dont think it will work for this, but im not sure its a problem and its not really on my radar about these issues).
i can understand some misgivings about minix though its only a side point, and when i say im fairly neutral about minix its because i really am. at least thats without checking if its on github or something.
im really tired of roys bullshit about openbsd, and i honestly think part of the reason he does this is just to be a troll. seriously, hes trolling. but i also think part of it is that his community is interested in openbsd and hes trying to keep them interested in HIS OWN brand of bullshit, and he seriously knows nothing about openbsd (and little about other bsds) at all. im no expert myself, though i try not to just make up shit.

weve been through this lie before (in may i addressed the statement he essentially made up about having to run startx when no one has ever told him that, and roys not that stupid either). this is one he tells just to amuse himself.
when roy was doing his smear campaign about me personally, it followed a similar pattern-- he (practically) made up shit about me (the best lies are based on a kernel of truth, but roys lies are based on a microkernel) and then he started kind of "flourishing" around that lie as he told it over and over again, month after month-- adding bits and pieces of bullshit to it on a similar theme. its basically like improv comedy, except with bullshit.
1. the truth: you have the option of running startx
2. the (baseless) lie and shameless fud: you HAVE TO run startx to use x in openbsd
3. the flourish after (MONTHS) of this bullshit: i dont think openbsd even comes with x!
this is the way he smeared me and lied to his community about me when i stopped writing for him, this is the way he smears openbsd and lies to his community about it as well.
this is how roy lies, this is the established pattern of his lying.
he also mentions (and has occasionally uses) things from this website but tells people he doesnt know the address, its such a fucking silly game for someone who is pushing 40 years old to play. honestly, roy is a debian EVANGELIST-- hes no less ridiculous than the softies ive dealt with and his tactics are just as shameless.

of course all he had to do was ask someone who knew, rather than tell the same lie over and over again. but roy is playing stupid. nobody ever told him that running startx was NECESSARY. its optional-- EXACTLY LIKE IT IS IN GNU/LINUX.
by the way, the first time i installed openbsd i didnt want to bother with x yet. so i told the (openbsd) installer not to start with it.
THE INSTALLER ASKS. i told it no, i dont want to start with x.
just to prevent (or rather preempt, as it wont prevent it) any further bullshit, the OTHER command "rcctl enable xenodm" is a way to CHANGE the setting to run x by default IF you tell the isntalled you DONT want to do that anyway.
IF YOU TELL THE INSTALLER to start with x, then you wont even need the command (unless you want to turn it OFF).
the reason i started out without x? i had lots of other things i wanted to focus on first, before i worried about gui stuff.
EVEN IF YOU TELL THE INSTALLER you dont want to start with x, IT STILL INSTALLS IT.
if you dont want to install x, you have to UNselect the set called x or x11 or whatever.
by default, it installs x with the other sets.
roy just keeps at this-- DELIBERATELY MISINFORMING his community, trying to play inteference between them and information some of them actually want (a few of his regulars have expressed interest in bsd, and since openbsd is the closest to free-- more like debian was until 2015, they specifically show interest in that). and he doesnt get (or doesnt care) that this particular sort of dishonestly is a tactic used heavily by the worst people in the industry.
if he wanted to make himself useful, he could:
* stop telling bullshit to try to poison the well about openbsd (but if he doesnt, perhaps this website will do it for him).
* contact the people working on a COMPLETELY LIBRE and FSF-APPROVED version of OPENBSD which makes it even weirded that roy decides to spread so much fud and lies about openbsd.

(i know why, hes a compulsive liar and this is one of the thrills he gets). i hope having his bullshit debunked takes away some of the fun. im quite aware he is also an attention addict, but thats no reason to let him get away with this microsoft-like level of lying about software that actually helps people gain more control over their computing.
the way roy fights openbsd is cowardly, based on lies and innuendo (leaving out important details and leaning heavily on bullshit).
i know he will want to make this look like a simple mistake. he really has no reasons to assume half the things he says, the things hes right about are either out of context or judged completely disproportionally to other things that he approves of, its all double standards and basically being a fucking auntie about everything he says about it.
again, this is a cowardly way for him to fight, but this is how he really operates. hes not a journalist, hes not an activist-- hes a liar and a shill when you really get to know him. it took me a couple years, sadly, but i intend to make it less work for other people to find their way past his fake yellow "journalism".
when you see the lies and bullshit he tells about openbsd, you can start to find it more easily in his absolute bullshit about systemd-- going as far as to lie about things stallman never said (and said the opposite of on his personal website). i am in regular contact with other people who used to write or do other things for this guy, and ive seen him pull this sort of shit on more than one person.
and just like a politician, you present essentially irrefutable evidence that hes full of shit, and he just keeps telling lies. if it gets to the point where the only people talking to him are the ones that know hes lying even to them (and theyre alright with that, because i dont think hes even fooling them now) then i suppose everybodys happy and thats good enough. its the ones that think hes not bullshitting that deserve better. and obviously, openbsd deserves better-- but more than that, the people working to make it truly free-as-in-freedom (its already closer than debian to start with) deserve better.
also credit where credit is obviously due to de raadt and company, 99% of whom are not as bad as roy (or linus torvalds) says.
